On the John Fredericks Show Discussing Biden Pick for CBP Commissioner, Chris Magnus

April 15, 2021 by Todd Bensman

LISTEN TO THE APRIL 13, 2021 SHOW SEGMENT HERE

Bensman: This is a nominee who is highly contemptuous of the agency he’s being put forward to lead, Customs and Border Protection, which is the largest law enforcement agency in the country. When he was police chief, he worked tirelessly to defeat their aims and objectives for immigration enforcement. This is a guy who is a major proponent of sanctuary cities, has worked relentlessly to defeat ICE in collecting criminal aliens out of jails. It’s a very bizarre selection. He is law enforcement but somebody who is an open-borders advocate.

John Fredericks: Of all the choices Biden has, why make this?

Bensman: Because this police chief, Magnus, has written op-eds and has been kind of gaming for a job like this for a while.  He wanted to get in with a Hillary Clinton administration that never came to be, obviously, and has written op-eds for the New York Times and has gone on the record as a supporter of Black Lives Matter.  He showed up, pointedly, with a Black Lives Matter poster at one of the protests. This is a guy who has positioned himself with the radical far left. And that got noticed by people in the Biden administration. And it worked for him.

John Fredericks: You would think it would have the opposite effect. When you’re taking over an agency that you have contempt for, that you loath, why would you put that person in charge of the agency? And, why would he even want the job?

Bensman:  Because the objective of the Biden administration, based on its campaign promises and its opening moves in office, is to neuter border enforcement and immigration enforcement. And they’ve done a good job at that so far, for example eliminating almost all ICE enforcement missions. There’s no deportation happening and the borders are wide open. This administration has done well at managing a welcome wagon instead of putting up walls and trying to stop illegal immigration. So in that sense, this makes perfect sense to put someone like this police chief in charge of an agency that the administration wants to gut, wants to prevent from conducting normal law enforcement operations in accordance with statute.
